The John Lewis guide separates the TOG rating from weight which also depends on the filling. Therefore two blankets of similar weight do not necessarily have the same insulation, and a light blanket is not necessarily cold.
If there is no rating that allows you to compare the blankets, ask for a detailed description of the product. Do not invent a conversion between grams and TOG or deduce a number from a picture of a puffy blanket.

When presenting grams: why does the measure change the comparison?
Let's say that two blankets say "filling 1,000 grams". One measuring 150 x 200 cm, which means an area of 3 square meters, and the other measuring 200 x 220 cm, meaning 4.4 square meters. In this example, the total weight of the filling is the same, but it is distributed over a different area. If it is indeed the weight of the filling, we get approximately 333 and 227 grams per square meter. If the figure also includes the casing, the calculation does not describe the filling density.
Even after the calculation, we have no TOG rating and no basis to determine which blanket is warmer: the type of filling, the structure and the test data are still missing. The example is intended to show why total weight on the package is not sufficient for comparison. Ask for data for the same measure and in the same unit, and leave missing information as an open question.
