Measuring and planning tool
Check a mattress protector’s stated fit
Before ordering a mattress protector, check the mattress width, length and height. This tool compares your measurements with the mattress dimensions stated for the protector, adding topper thickness when the protector is meant to wrap over it.
The result checks dimensions only. It does not confirm secure fit, liquid resistance or suitability for a particular purpose. The model’s shape, elastic, corners and fitting instructions still matter.

- Measure the bare mattress edge to edge and along its side for height. Measure the topper separately. No personal details are needed: the calculation runs in your browser, and entries are neither saved nor sent.
- For a fitted protector, enter the nominal mattress dimensions the product is intended to fit, as stated in its specification. Unstretched fabric measurements may not describe the supported fit. If several sizes or a range are listed, check the exact version you selected.
- Enter a maximum mattress height only when the manufacturer explicitly identifies it as the supported height. Sewn pocket or skirt depth is not necessarily the maximum mattress height; do not substitute one for the other without confirmation.
- A zipped encasement requires the exact supported height or an approved height range, as well as corner fit. The tool will flag that confirmation. For a flat pad, enter the active protective area, excluding wings or straps, to calculate its possible coverage.
Guides to help complete your check
If you are unsure about the product type or the size on its label, start with these guides. After choosing a size, check care instructions too: washing and drying that are unsuitable for the model can affect fit or damage its protective layer.

Printable worksheet: mattress protector fit
Record the actual measurements and compare them with the model specification before buying. All measurements are in centimetres.
Measurement record
- Room / bed name
- Date
- Mattress width
- Mattress length
- Mattress height
- Topper height, if present
- Total height to be covered
If the protector will cover a topper too, measure the layers together in their intended arrangement without compressing them. Exclude the bed frame and legs.
What does the protector specification say?
- Model name
- Intended mattress dimensions
- Maximum mattress height or approved height range
- Attachment: elastic / straps / zipper / other
Skirt height or pocket depth describes part of the protector. It is not necessarily the maximum mattress height approved by the manufacturer. If only pocket depth is stated, request fit confirmation.
Example mattress dimensions
| Width in cm | Example lengths in cm |
|---|---|
| 80 | 190 or 200 |
| 90 | 190 or 200 |
| 100 | 190 |
| 120 | 190 or 200 |
| 140 | 190 or 200 |
| 160 | 200 |
| 180 | 200 |
| 200 | 200 |
Before ordering
- The actual width and length fall within the model’s stated fit range.
- The total height falls within the approved height range.
- The protected area is clear: top surface, sides or a defined area.
- I have read the model’s washing and drying instructions.
For an underpad, check the protected area separately; fabric and tuck-in wing dimensions are not necessarily mattress dimensions. For a split bed, complete one sheet per mattress.
