Bedding size guide: start with three measurements

Buying bedding seems straightforward until the sheet slips off the corners, the duvet bunches inside its cover or the pillow will not fit its new case. A useful bedding size guide separates three items: the mattress, duvet and pillow. Each has its own dimensions, and a coordinated set may not fit everything you already own. A bedding size chart helps narrow the choices, while actual measurements and the product specification determine the fit.

The charts bring together common Israeli sizes and a comparison with US mattresses. They do not list every size worldwide or every custom-made product. Israeli dimensions are in centimeters, with width followed by length. Jump to the chart for the item you need, then read the relevant explanation. When buying a complete set, check each component separately before adding it to your basket.

Bedding sizes for single and three-quarter beds

For a single bed, distinguish a 190 cm mattress from a 200 cm mattress. Both may carry the same size name, but a fitted sheet needs to match the actual length. Widths of 80, 90 and 100 cm also matter: an oversized sheet may stay loose, while an undersized one may pull at the corners. Measure the uncovered mattress surface, excluding the bed frame and headboard.

A three-quarter bed often refers to a 120 cm wide mattress, but the name alone is insufficient. For a 120 by 200 mattress, choose a sheet explicitly rated for those dimensions and check its height allowance. The duvet cover can be a single size if it matches the duvet you use. Double bedding sizes: 140, 160, 180 or 200?

Double describes how a bed is used rather than a single measurement. The fitted-sheet chart includes several widths and lengths, so write down the complete size. A mattress measuring 160 by 200 cm needs a sheet intended for that mattress, rather than one labeled only double. If a product page offers several sizes, make sure your selection updates the component specifications too. The package photo may not represent the option selected.

For joined beds or an adjustable bed with two mattresses, check whether you need two separate fitted sheets. Each mattress has a width, length and height, and the two sides may move independently. Duvet covers: why 200 by 220 is not the sheet size

A duvet cover encloses the duvet, so choose its dimensions from the duvet laid flat. For a 150 by 200 cm duvet, find a corresponding cover using the maker’s specification. A 200 by 220 duvet cannot use a single cover merely because the fabric is identical. An oversized cover may leave empty edges, while an undersized one can fold the filling. Corner ties help secure a properly matched duvet; they do not correct a substantial size mismatch.

Some sellers write 220 by 200 instead of 200 by 220. This does not automatically mean a different overall size, but orientation can still matter. Check which edge is the width, where the closure sits and whether there are internal fasteners. With a shaped or directional duvet, matching both dimensions is only part of the check. Pillowcases: dimensions, volume and borders

A 50 by 70 cm pillowcase is a common Israeli example, though other sizes exist. Measure the pillow and consider whether it is flat, lofty or specially shaped. A thick pillow may be difficult to fit into a case that appears correct on paper. For decorative borders, check whether the stated dimensions describe the usable interior or the overall fabric. Outer borders do not increase the space available for the pillow.

Check the closure too: envelope, zip or open end. The pillow should remain covered comfortably without being forced into shape or leaving an exposed edge. Bedding sizes for cots and toddler beds

There is no single size covering every cot, bassinet or toddler bed. Start with the mattress and manufacturer’s specification, then measure width, length and height. Choose a sheet intended for that particular mattress and check that it stays securely fitted. Adult bedding charts cannot determine cot fit. Queen and King: compare measurements before ordering abroad

English size names do not guarantee a match with Israeli measurements. A nominal US Queen is 152.4 by 203.2 cm, so it differs from a 160 by 200 mattress. King and California King also differ in width and length. The brief comparison here describes mattresses; it does not determine duvet-cover or flat-sheet dimensions. Checklist before buying a bedding set

Write down the mattress dimensions, total height, duvet dimensions and pillow sizes on paper or your phone. Compare that list with the product specification, including the number of pieces. Two pillowcases do not mean a sheet is included, and two single duvets need two matching covers. Read care instructions and the return policy before opening the packaging or washing the set. Ask the seller to clarify missing component or fit information.

Once fit is confirmed, choose the fabric and weave you prefer. Continue with choosing bedding, buying bedding components separately and washing and caring for bedding. Natural fabric does not automatically require a larger size: follow the maker’s sizing and care directions. If existing bedding no longer fits, remeasure it and identify whether width, length or depth is the issue before ordering a replacement.

What do you call bed sizes in Israel?

In Israel, measurements are usually given in centimeters. For a fitted sheet, start with the mattress width and length, then check pocket depth. Choose the duvet cover to fit the duvet and the pillowcase to fit the pillow, rather than relying on the bed’s size name.

The tables show common sizes and examples checked against Israeli retailers’ listings. They are not a binding standard or an exhaustive list of custom sizes. “Double,” “Queen” and “King” do not replace the measurements on the label.

Why is the size of the sheet not the size of the duvet cover?

A double mattress with a width of 160 cm and a length of 200 cm can be used with one blanket or with two single blankets. Therefore, the sheet should fit the mattress, but the duvet cover may be a completely different size. For example, a set can combine a 160 x 200 sheet, a 200 x 220 duvet cover and two 50 x 70 cm pillowcases.

Pay attention to the order of the measurements: when the packaging specifically states width and length, keep their order. In a duvet cover, the position of the opening and the corner connections also determine how the duvet fits.

How do you measure the depth of a sheet?

Measure the mattress from its base to the sleeping surface, including any topper. Compare this with the sheet’s stated fit, such as “for mattresses up to 30 cm high.” Do not assume that the unstretched pocket depth equals the maximum mattress height the manufacturer permits.

A 28 cm high mattress with a 5 cm high topper has a total height of 33 cm. A sheet that is set to fit up to 30 cm is not the right choice in this case, even if the width and length match.

Do the measurements vary according to the type of fabric?

Cotton, cotton sateen, linen and microfiber can be sold in the same sizes. The material does not determine the size of the bed. The differences that need to be checked are flexibility, expected shrinkage and care guidelines.

A flexible jersey sheet is also not suitable for every size. Do not deliberately choose a small sheet in the hope that it will stretch; Use the size range that the manufacturer specifies.
